Win4Excellence (research project)

Want to know how to obtain funding for your research project? The Win4Excellence programme is part of Win4Research. Targeted at universities and recognised research centres, this programme aims to fund ambitious, high-quality research in promising themes for the Walloon Region. This includes strategic innovation areas as defined in RIS3, as well as areas specifically highlighted in the regional policy statement, such as space and cybersecurity.

What is the purpose of the grant? 

Win4Excellence, aimed at universities, in partnership with recognised Research Centres, aims to fund ambitious research that is strongly positioned upstream, in promising themes for the Walloon Region. For example, in the Strategic Innovation Areas of RIS3, or in areas specifically highlighted in the Regional Policy Statement, such as space or cyber security.

Who can submit an application? 

Win4Excellence is open to universities and research centres only.

• The project promoter must be a university research unit.
• The project partners must be other university research units and recognised research centres. The presence of at least one recognised research centre is required.

The research topics accepted in this call must fall within the framework of the following value chains:

• The immersive and interactive experiences sector
• The ‘energy communities’ sector
• The digitisation of processes, management of production and energy consumption flows, energy networks;
• The integration of renewable energies into electrical and thermal networks and the management of decentralised energy production, the development of renewable energy communities and energy communities of citizens, including islanding (micro-grid);
• Technologies for energy storage itself (electrical: battery, pumped storage, heat in various forms, cold).
• The hydrogen sector
• The gene therapy sector

How much funding is there? 

Within the limit of eligible expenses: 

• For universities: the maximum subsidy intensity is 100% for university research units; 
• For research centres: the maximum intensity of the subsidy is 75% for the approved research centre(s). 

What costs are eligible? 

• Personnel costs relating to researchers and technicians; 
• Functionary costs; 
• Overheads; 
• Acquisition of specific research equipment; 
• Cost of materials used; 
• Subcontracting expenses.
